UNDRIP: UNITED Nations DECLARATION ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE

The acronym you may be seeing now more than ever. Let’s go in-depth with UNDRIP’s origin, its importance, and how to meaningfully understand basic human rights for Indigenous Peoples of the world. UNDRIP is a universal framework of minimum standards for the survival, dignity, and well-being of the Indigenous Peoples of the world. It elaborates on existing human rights standards and fundamental freedoms as they apply to the specific situation of Indigenous Peoples.

Participants will leave this session with high-level exposure to each of UNDRIP’s 46 articles and comprehension of the document as a whole. As well as access to the United Nations official UNDRIP document that will be provided for internal distribution and further reading. Finally, participants will also understand the importance of UNDRIP, how Canada has taken action, and what the future holds for UNDRIP, our country, and the world.
